Appearances

A Link to the Past

"The southeast area of Hyrule was dominated by a vast lake called Hylia. Several hidden caves sat on its shores, even one lined with ice. The lake itself was dotted with whirlpools, telltale sign of the rough currents just below the water's surface."

— Nintendo Power Player's Guide

Lake Hylia in A Link to the Past is ridden with enemies, such as River Zoras. The Dark World version of Lake Hylia holds the Ice Palace.

Ocarina of Time

Background

Lake Hylia lies southwest of Hyrule Field. Link gets here for the first time as a child through the tunnel which connects the Lake and Zora's Domain. He accidentally found Ruto's Letter here. As an adult Zora's Domain has frozen and the path has been frozen so Link gets here either by foot, horse or the river which flows from Gerudo Valley. His task is to restore the Lake's water which has been mysteriously drained.

Background

Lake Hylia is the first stage in Whereabouts of the Wind, and in Four Swords Adventures. It serves primarily as a tutorial stage for the game, introducing Link to various combat styles, items, and other aspects of the game. It is filled with much scenery, including trees, rivers, waterfalls and caves. Link meets Kaepora Gaebora for the first time early in the stage, as well as Tingle later on. After obtaining and using various items to navigate the Lake, Link must defeat a group of Soldiers and their Leader, Chief Soldier. Afterwards, Link must break the Eye Barriers at the end of the level, allowing him access to the Cave of No Return.

The Minish Cap

Lake Hylia is one of the areas of Hyrule and houses the fourth dungeon of the game, the Temple of Droplets. The Temple holds the third element, the Water Element. Stockwell's house, Mayor Hagen's house, David Jr. and Waveblade are located here.

Twilight Princess

Lake Hylia in Twilight Princess when restored to normal.

Background

In Twilight Princess, Lake Hylia can be found in the southern part of the Lanayru Province. The Great Bridge of Hylia passes above the lake and leads into the center of the province. Fyer is located here with his Human-Cannonball Ride. Link can pay him for an Oasis Flight up to the Gerudo Desert or a normal flight up onto Falbi's house where Link can play the mini-game Falbi's Flight-by-Fowl or just pass through the house to reach the Great Bridge of Hylia.

When first encountered the Lake is corrupted with Twilight and almost dried out, however, once Link collects all the Tears of Light and unfreezes Zora's Domain, the Lake is filled with water and restored from Twilight.
