Kakariko Village, also referred to as Kakariko Town, is a recurring village in The Legend of Zelda series.

Appearances

A Link to the Past

Kakariko Village makes its first appearance in A Link to the Past. It is located in the west. There are plenty of houses and people to talk to, including the Street Merchant, who at the beginning of the game offers to sell Link a Magic Bottle. There are also plenty of mini-games. To the north is the entrance to the Lost Woods, and to the south is the House of Books. In the Dark World, Kakariko Village becomes the Village of Outcasts. A dungeon is located here, namely Gargoyle's Domain.

Locations

Ocarina of Time

Kakariko Village from Ocarina of Time

Kakariko Village was once built by the Sheikah, and it was the haven of the race. Princess Zelda's attendant Impa was born and raised here. The village used to be inhabited by the Sheikahs, but the leader of Kakariko Village, Impa, decided to open it for the poor folks. In the present, Kakariko Village is a small and peaceful village located near Hyrule Castle Town. It houses a few villagers, but nothing of notable interest. Link passes through the village in order to reach Goron City to recover the Goron's Ruby. The Kakariko Village Graveyard is in town as well. The House of Skulltula is also located here.

In the future, Kakariko Village has grown exponentially, as many fled here after Hyrule Castle Town was destroyed by Ganondorf during his rise to power. It now houses a Shooting Gallery, Bazaar, and many more residents. The Gravekeeper, Dampé, has since died and will reward whoever can beat his ghost in a race with the Hookshot, which is required to enter the Forest Temple.

Four Swords Adventures

Kakariko Village appears in Four Swords Adventures as the second stage of Level 5, The Dark World. When the four heroes arrive, the village has been set on fire by Shadow Link.

Twilight Princess

In Twilight Princess, Kakariko Village is the main village of the Eldin Province, the second province visited in the game. Many people moved away from the village after the Shadow Beast attack, thus it seems rather empty. Through the events of the game, Twilight covers the village, and Link gathers Tears of Light to restore it.

The village is situated at the foot of Death Mountain. Its climate appears to be warm and lacking abundant plant life. Kakariko is found in the far west, and the far east in the Wii version.

The village itself is the second largest human establishment seen in Twilight Princess, second only to Hyrule Castle Town. The Eldin Spring is located at the south end of the village. Three different shops can also be found in Kakariko. Barnes Bombs sells many types of bombs, Malo Mart is founded by Malo after light returns to the village and sells many items including the Hylian Shield. There is also a shop, ran by a young Goron at night who sells potions. In addition to a few empty residence homes and the Sanctuary, there is the Elde Inn, the village hotel, and a hot spring above the village.

Kakariko also has its own Graveyard, where Link can find a secret entrance to King Zora's Grave, a Piece of Heart, and two Poe Souls.

Two Golden Bugs are also hidden in Kakariko Village. One is inside an abandoned household, and the other is in the graveyard, at the base of a tree.
