Item Shops are a type of shop Link can purchase from in The Legend of Zelda. They are owned and operated by the Merchant, and the stuff he sells cannot be found anywhere else. The only other shop in The Legend of Zelda is known as the Potion Shop, and that shop is ran by the Old Woman and offers Link potions.

There are four different types of the Item Shop. Each type has different items from the other, or the same item but at a different price.

Type #1

Item Price
160 Rupees

  • Bolded Prices are the best available in the game

First Quest

Second Quest

In the Second Quest, in addition to these three locations, this type of Item Shop can be found in three other locations. The first new location is along the northeast border of the overworld, where the Old Man offers Link a Letter during the First Quest. The second new location is along the south border of the overworld, where Link can find The Manji in the First Quest. The third and final new location is three screens east and one screen north of where The Dragon is found in the First Quest, but Link has to use a Bomb to uncover this Item Shop.

Type #2

The second type of Item Shop is a little more common than the first type, as it has four different locations. This shop also sells the Magical Shield like the first type, but has replaced the Blue Candle and the Small Key. All of its products and wares can be found below:

Item Price
130 Rupees
Bomb x4 20 Rupees
Arrows 80 Rupees
  • Bolded prices are the best available in the game

As stated previously, the second type of Item Shop has four different locations. The first location is on the east side of Hyrule, and can be travelled to by going right eight screens and up one screen from the Starting Screen. The second location is very close to the seventh dungeon of the game, The Demon. From the entrance to this dungeon, going down one screen, right two screens, and up one screen will take Link to this shop. The third location of this type of Item Shop is found by going right one screen, up two screens, right one screen, up one screen, and right one screen from the Starting Screen. The fourth and final location is very close to the sixth dungeon of the game, The Dragon. From the entrance to this dungeon, head one screen down, right one screen, up one screen and right two screens.

Type #3

The third type of Item Shop is tied with the second type in terms of the most common type of shop, as this type also has four locations. The wares and products of this type of Item Shop are shown below:

Item Price
90 Rupees
Food 100 Rupees
Recovery Heart 10 Rupees
  • Bolded prices are the best available in the game

Similarly to the second type of shop, this type of Item Shop has four locations scattered across Hyrule, but all of them must be uncovered by Link with a Bomb or his Candle. The first location is very close to the fourth dungeon of the game, The Snake. From the entrance to The Snake, head down one screen, right one screen, and finally up one screen. On this screen, use any Candle and burn the bush that is the top-right one of the group of bushes. This reveals a staircase to the shop. The second location is geographically close to the second dungeon, The Moon. From the entrance to The Moon, head down one screen and right one screen. On this screen, the lonely bush to the bottom-right corner can be burned to reveal the Item Shop. The third location is also close to a dungeon, this time the sixth dungeon, The Dragon. From the entrance to The Dragon, go one screen down, one screen right, one screen up, right two screens, down one screen, right one screen, and finally up one screen. Bomb the wall to the top-right to reveal the Item Shop. The final location is also close to The Dragon. From the entrance to The Dragon, head down one screen, right one screen, up one screen, right one screen, up one screen, and left two screens. Place a Bomb on the northern wall to the left to reveal the Item Shop.

Type #4

The fourth and final type of Item Shop can only be found in one location, and thus is easily the most rare. This shop is the only place Link can find the Blue Ring. Its products and wares are shown below:

Item Price
80 Rupees
Food 60 Rupees
Blue Ring 250 Rupees
  • Bolded prices are the best available in the game

The fourth type of Item Shop has only one location. To get to this location, head up one screen, left three screens, and up three screens from the Starting Screen. In this screen, touch the middle Armos statue in the top row. He will move out of the way revealing a staircase.

In the Second Quest, this Item Shop has moved to the north-easternmost screen on the overworld map, where Link can find a Secret Moblin with 100 Rupees in the First Quest. Link has to walk up an invisible staircase from the screen immediately south of this Item Shop to access it.
