"Link's beloved steed and most faithful companion. When the gauge is full, charge ahead with a Strong Attack. You can also charge by holding X / Y at the end of a Combo Attack."

— In-Game Description

The Horse is a weapon class used by Link in Hyrule Warriors. It was added to the game as part of the Master Quest Pack. While wielding the weapon, Link fights with his Hylian Sword, but this time he rides upon his loyal steed, Epona.

Variations

Note that regardless of what variation of Epona is equipped, Link will always use the Knight's Sword when riding with Epona.

  • Epona: The Level 1 variation. This incarnation of Epona is original to Hyrule Warriors.
  • Twilight Epona: The Level 2 variation. Based on Epona's appearance in Twilight Princess.
  • Epona of Time: The Level 3 variation. Based on Epona's appearance in Ocarina of Time.
  • Epona of Time +: The Level 4 variation. Identical to Epona of Time.
  • Stormy-Eyed Epona: The Level 4+ variation, which adds Hyrule Warriors Element Lightning.png Lightning as a secondary element. Identical to Epona of Time, but Epona has bright orange hair instead of white.

Moveset

Epona has a meter containing five Carrots; Link can press X / Y after any of his Combo Attacks to expend a Carrot and perform a brief, forward charge - this is useful for cancelling attacks and positioning Link out of danger. Carrots regenerate over time.

Attack Explanation
Base String? Link and Epona perform a series of five attacks; Epona dashes forward while swinging her head, Link performs a diagonal left slash, then a diagonal right slash, Epona performs a leaping dash, and Link performs a horizontal slash that fires a Sword Beam ahead.
C1? Link expends a Carrot to perform a quick charge forward. If Epona is running at full speed, Link will instead perform a diagonal sword slash.
C2? Epona turns around and performs a double kick behind her; this can be extended, causing Link to fire a volley of Arrows from the Bow in front of him, before performing a Spin Attack.
C3? Epona rears up and performs several kicks with her front legs; this can be extended, causing Epona to smash down, then for Link to perform two overhead slashes followed by a Spin Attack.
C4? Epona jumps up and smashes down to the ground; this can be extended, causing Epona to follow up with a second, larger slam, before Link charges forward with a series of six vertical slashes followed by a Spin Attack.
C5? Epona performs a series of three short dashes, Link performing a vertical slash with each one, before they charge forward as Link performs a powerful thrust attack.
Special Attack Link raises his sword to the air, charging with energy, before Epona charges forward to trample any enemies in her path; Link then fires a vertical Sword Beam straight ahead.
Focus Spirit Finisher Manual: Link delivers a vertical slash in front of him, before Epona follows up with a series of stomp attacks.
Automatic: Link and Epona charge forward with a thrust attack, before releasing an explosion of light around them.
