When Link pulled the Master Sword from its pedestal in Ocarina of Time, he advanced seven years in time. Once this happened, Link was given the title Hero of Time. Hyrule Historia suggests that the Hero's Spirit from Twilight Princess is the ghost of the Hero of Time.[1]
