The Guardian is an enemy that appears in Breath of the Wild. It is the first and only enemy showcased during the E3 2014 trailer.

Characteristics

The massive enemy has characteristics that resemble that of a Beamos. When it sees Link in the distance, its eye lights up and it shoots a powerful laser beam towards him. These beams cause massive destruction and cause objects in the distance to light on fire. The enemy also shoot these beams out in rapid succession.

Unlike most Beamos, this creature is not stationary and has the ability to move very rapidly in pursuit of Link. The enemy has four massive legs, as well as what appears to be a few smaller legs. While it may not have exactly eight legs to fit the traditional definition of an arachnid, the enemy does resemble similar spider-like enemies that have appeared in the Zelda series before.

The legs double-down as large tentacles, capable of destroying environmental objects, as well as attacking Link. Each of the tentacles have four claws, which assumingly allows the enemy to grab hold of objects.

Like Beamos that have appeared in modern Zelda games including Skyward Sword, Link is able to defeat this massive creature by shooting its eye with his Bow and Arrow.

Given the massive nature of the enemy and its apparent power, this could serve more as a boss as opposed to a traditional enemy. Perhaps an overworld boss, similar to The Imprisoned from Skyward Sword.
