Golden Octoroks appear in three Zelda games, A Link to the Past, Oracle of Seasons and The Minish Cap. The Golden Octoroks are more powerful than normal Octoroks, making them stronger and harder to beat.
Appearances
A Link to the Past
In the re-release on the Gameboy Advance, two Golden Octoroks appear in the Palace of the Four Sword. They are much weaker than their Oracle of Seasons and Minish Cap counterparts, and do not take as many hits to defeat.
Oracle of Seasons
During Link's quest, he can meet an Old Man located one screen south of Gnarled Root Dungeon. He is found during the Summer when the water has receded, revealing a staircase. As soon as Link speaks with the Old Man, this triggers the side quest to acquiring the Red Ring. Four Golden Beasts will appear throughout the Overworld. One of these beasts is the Golden Octorok and it will appear at the southwest corner of the Spool Swamp.
The Golden Octorok is a significantly stronger version of a standard Octorok. Since it is only encountered during Summer, and the default season is Autumn, Link will have to use the Tree Stump located south of the Poison Moth's Lair to change the season.
The Minish Cap
The Golden Octorock appears in The Minish Cap only when a successful Kinstone fusion is made. There is a chance that a Golden Octorock will enter the game somewhere in the map. It can shoot multiple rocks at one time making it very challenging to kill. However if one does manage to kill the Golden Octorock, they will be rewarded with a great amount of Rupees. This makes Golden Octorock fighting very helpful for gathering Rupees for expensive items.
