The Gnarled Key is a quest item acquired in Oracle of Seasons. Link obtains the Key after retrieving the Wooden Sword from the Hero's Cave, then going to the Maku Tree's grove and awakening him. Upon awakening the Maku Tree, the Maku Tree tells Link of how he needs to save Din, and concludes by giving Link the Gnarled Key.
