It is interesting to note that along with the other relative locations between some of the islands in ''The Wind Waker'' with some of the locations in ''Ocarina of Time'', that the Forsaken Fortress is located in the northwest, just as Gerudo Desert was in ''Ocarina of Time'' - both the "home bases" of Ganondorf. The fact that the fortress was inhabited by pirates before Ganondorf's arrival, and in knowing the Gerudo race were pirates themselves, Ganondorf himself leading a gang of thieves before the events of ''Ocarina of Time'', it only emphasizes the possibility that the Forsaken Fortress was the tallest portion of the Gerudo Fortress that survived the [[Golden Goddesses|Goddesses']] flood.

Template:Dungeon The Forsaken Fortress is a dungeon that is visited multiple times in Zelda: the Wind Waker.

First Visit: Stealth

In the first visit, Link tries to rescue his sister, Aryll, and enlists the help of Tetra and her pirate crew. Since the fortress is heavily guarded by Bokoblins with searchlights and patrolling Miniblins and Moblins, they can't get their pirate ship close enough to drop you off there. Instead, they decide to shoot you out of a cannon inside a barrel, successfully getting you into the fortress but also making you lose your sword and smash into a wall. In order to get to the room where Aryll is being kept without Link's sword, Link must stealthily go around the fortress, taking out the searchlights one by one and avoiding any Miniblins or Moblins. Once he finally retrieves his sword and gets to Aryll's room however, the giant bird, the Helmaroc King takes Link and throws him into the sea, after showing him to his leader, Ganondorf.

Second Visit: Assault

Later in the game, when Link is more experienced, he returns to the Forsaken Fortress to finally save his little sister. This time he has his sword, so he has no problem getting back to the room where his sister is, after he defeats Phantom Ganon and gets the Skull Hammer. When he gets to Aryll's room, Tetra and her pirates surprise him and take Aryll back to their ship, leaving Link to fight and finally defeat the Helmaroc King. After he is defeated, ink attempts to kill Ganondorf, but since the Master Sword has lost its power, he is unable to do at that time.

Theory

This section contains non-canon fan theory and speculation.

It is interesting to note that along with the other relative locations between some of the islands in The Wind Waker with some of the locations in Ocarina of Time, that the Forsaken Fortress is located in the northwest, just as Gerudo Desert was in Ocarina of Time - both the "home bases" of Ganondorf. The fact that the fortress was inhabited by pirates before Ganondorf's arrival, and in knowing the Gerudo race were pirates themselves, Ganondorf himself leading a gang of thieves before the events of Ocarina of Time, it only emphasizes the possibility that the Forsaken Fortress was the tallest portion of the Gerudo Fortress that survived the Goddesses' flood.
