Floor Spikes are recurring traps that appear throughout The Legend of Zelda series. They are often used to impede Link's progress through a dungeon. In some cases, they just block Link's path, while in others, Link can walk over the spikes, but he will lose health.

Ocarina of Time

In Ocarina of Time, Floor Spikes are found in the Water Temple, often used as a restriction, preventing you from passing unless Link has acquired the Longshot or adjusted the water level. It is also found on the ground floor of some rooms, preventing Link from standing underwater with the Iron Boots.

In the Shadow Temple, some Floor Spikes are invisible and Link will need to use the Lens of Truth to see these obstacles. In these rooms, Link can use the Hover Boots to float over the spikes for a brief period, avoiding taking any damage.

Phantom Hourglass

In Phantom Hourglass, Floor Spikes are often used as a barrier to prevent Link from progressing to a new part of a dungeon. Often, they block a pathway and they can be deactivated by solving a puzzle or defeating all of the enemies in an area. In some areas, Floor Spikes will appear and retract every few moments, and Link will need to time his movements to avoid being hit by the spikes.
