— In-game description

The Fish Journal is an item from Twilight Princess. This journal is used by Link to track his fishing records; number of each type of fish caught, and the largest one.[1] The Fish Journal is never actually obtained in-game. Instead, it appears in the pause screen after Link has caught a fish. Only fish caught in the overworld are tracked in the Fish Journal; fish caught in the Fishing Hole are not.

Every time Link catches a fish, it is recorded in the Fish Journal. If the fish Link catches is his largest yet, it is made a record size in the journal.[2] In order to complete the Fish Journal, Link has to catch at least one of every type of fish, including the Ordon Catfish, Reekfish, Hylian Pike, Greengill, Hylian Loach (baby), and Hyrule Bass.
