Epona

Epona is Link's horse, and his main method of transportation in several games. When riding Epona, six icons (either carrots or spurs) will appear. Pressing the A button will give Epona a burst of speed at the cost of one of these carrots or spurs. After a short period of time without sprinting, the icons will be replenished.

Ocarina of Time

Epona's first appearance was in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time." She could be obtained by first talking to Malon as a child to learn Epona's song, and then returning later as an adult. After paying Ingo to take a ride on a horse, Epona's song could be played to ride Epona around the enclosed area. If the player speaks to Ingo while mounted on Epona, he will challenge you to a race. Beating him twice will allow you to keep Epona, and although Ingo tries to keep you from leaving the ranch, you can simply jump a fence to get out.

Epona played a large role in the game, allowing Link to quickly safely get from one place to another in the vast land of Hyrule.

Majora's Mask

Epona made a return in "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask," appearing in the opening cutscene as Link is traveling to Termina. Epona is then kidnapped by Skull Kid and disappears for aportion of the story. Link finds Epona in Romani Ranch later in his adventure, but is unable to ride her unless he manages to get into the ranch on the first day using a Powder Keg, and agrees to help Romani with her alien problem.

Although no longer the fastest method of transportation, (now outpaced by the Goron mask) Epona could still be used to jump obstacles and get to otherwise inaccessible areas.

Twilight Princess

Epona is accompanying Link on his adventure yet again in "Twilight Princess," this time from the get-go. Epona is Link's horse, which he uses on the ranch that he works on to help him herd goats. She was to take Link to Hyrule Castle not far into the adventure, which leads to the main storyline of the game.

Epona's combat system was completely revamped for Twilight Princess. Not only is link able to use his bow while on Epona like in previous games, but also other weapons, including his sword.
