Dodongo is the term given the common Boss/Enemy found in the Zelda Series. They have appeared in The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, Four Swords Adventures, and Twilight Princess. In the early games, they appeared very similarly to the Triceratops, and ancient dinosaur. However, in Twilight Princess they appeared more reptile-like.

DODONGO DISLIKES SMOKE

There are a total of ten Dodongos that can be fought in The Legend of Zelda. The first of these ten is the Boss of the second dungeon in the game, The Moon. Oddly enough, whenever Link is fighting a Dodongo, it seems to take on to drive to attack Link. It will simply walk around the room, basically minding its own business. It can be killed if Link places a Bomb right in its path, at which time the Dodongo will swallow the Bomb and be damaged. Two explosions will kill the Dodongo, and allow Link to collect the second Triforce Shard.

The second appearance of the Dodongo contains a total of three, and they all fight Link at the same time. This battle takes place in the fifth dungeon of the game, The Lizard. Defeating these Dodongos requires the same strategy as the first battle; line up the Dodongo, place a Bomb, watch it die. The Dodongos gaurd a door that leads to the Old Man whom will offer Link a Bomb upgrade.

The third and final appearance of the Dodongo takes place in the seventh dungeon of the game, The Demon. There are a total of six Dodongos in this dungeon, and they all attack and defend the exact same way previous ones did. Link will face them three at a time, like in the fifth dungeon.

Watch out for its fiery breath!
Use (Z) Targeting techniques!

These giant lizards are slow moving and bulky, but watch out because they can do a lot of damage if you're not careful. Their primary attack is to breathe fire at Link, which makes them sit still for awhile. By getting close, you can make them do this, then quickly circle around and smack their tail (the only place they're vulnerable). They'll howl and spin around quickly, so get out of the way or else their tail will hit Link. Circle around and repeat the process. You can even do a jump attack on their tail with a Deku Stick to take them out in one hit. If Link positions himself right, he can throw a Bomb or Bomb Flower in front of them and they'll swallow it, destroying them at once. The other way to kill them is to simply shoot them with the Slingshot between their attacks. They are primarily found in Dodongo's Cavern, where Baby Dodongos and King Dodongo can also be found.

What?! Don't you know about
the Dodongo? It moves slowly, so
you can circle around to its
backside. Got that?

Oracle of Ages

The only Dodongo found in Oracle of Ages is Dmitri, a dodongo who allows Link to ride on his back, allowing him to travel through water. He is met on Crescent Island after completing the third dungeon, Moonlit Grotto, when he is being annoyed by Tokay. After rescuing him from the Tokay, Link rides on Dmitri's back to get back to the land of Labrynna.

Oracle of Seasons

Dodongo is the boss of the second dungeon, Snake's Remains. He is a slow, brownish lizard with spikes along the top of his body. He can attack in two ways: he will either charge at you, or breath a series of fireballs in your direction. Both of these attacks are easily avoided by simply moving out of his line of sight. In order to defeat him, you will need to equip the power bracelet and Bombs. When he opens his mouth, toss a bomb in. You can then pick him up using the power bracelet and throw him onto the spikes in the middle of the room (being careful not to step on the spikes yourself). After being thrown on the spikes four times, Dodongo will be defeated.

Dmitri also appears in this game.

Four Swords Adventures

The Dodongos in this game appear as mini-bosses, along with the boss of Realm of Heavens, Big Dodongo.

Twilight Princess

The Dodongos found in Twilight Princess are first spotted in the Goron Mines, and then in most of the hidden Caverns that can be found around Hyrule, including the Bridge of Eldin Cavern and the Lake Hylia Cavern. In this game, they are more reptile-like than previous appearances.

They can be defeated by attacking their tail, which is their weak spot. A few goods hits with the Ordon Sword will kill them. Alternatively, Link can shoot an Arrow into their mouth with his bow. This will kill them in one shot. Also, a Bomb Arrow shot at them will also kill them instantly.
