There are three stages to the boss fight with the Demon Train. Link must use the [[cannon]] of the Spirit Train to destroy the Demon Train. The fight takes place on four sets of train tracks. The Demon Train uses up two sets of tracks while Link uses the other two for the Spirit Train. The Demon Train occasionally switches between the two sets of tracks; to avoid hitting it, Link must put the Spirit Train in reverse to slow it down. During this battle, Link cannot come to a full stop in the Spirit Train, only change speeds (with reverse being the slowest). On some parts of the track there are dark fires that damage the Spirit Train if not avoided by Link.

During the first part of the boss fight, the Demon Train drops explosive barrels out of the sides of its last car to hit the Spirit Train. Link must blast these barrels with the cannon before they drop out in order to cause damage to the Demon Train. Once Link damages the Demon Train enough, the last car falls off from the rest of the train.
The battle takes place on four rails and the Demon Train will move back and forth amongst the rails. At times the Demon Train will attempt to move exactly where the Spirit Train is. Link will need to slam on the breaks and hit reverse so that the Demon Train doesn't hit him. Link will be able to switch tracks when there are forks in the road. On some parts of the track there are dark fires that damage the Spirit Train if not avoided by Link.

In the second phase of the fight, Link must destroy the Demon Train's second car. On this car, the Demon Train has four laser cannons that fire at the Spirit Train. Link must shoot each cannon twice to damage the second part of the Demon Train and break it off from the engine.
The first phase deals with the back cart of the Demon Train. While the Spirit Train is near the back cart of the Demon Train parts will occasionally open up with explosive barrels. Link can use the cannon to explode the barrel that appears while it is still inside the compartment. There are five sections that have these barrels; after exploding all of them the back cart of the Demon Train will fall off from the rest of the train. The Spirit Train will then be sent through a portal, which starts the path all over again.

The final phase of the fight consist of Link facing off with the engine of the Demon Train. The engine (the very front part of the train) has multiple rotating lasers that all fire simultaneously. Link has to shoot each crystal that is producing the lasers. After this is done, Link can proceed to shoot at the Demon Train's face at the front of the engine. Once this process is repeated, the Demon Train is defeated and Link enters his fight with Chancellor Cole.
Now the Demon Train only has one cart. This part of the battle is similar to the previous one but, instead of explosive barrels, the Demon Train is equipped with laser cannons. These cannons take two hits to defeat but there are only four of them. Avoid the Demon Train when it changes tracks and avoid the lasers from the cannons. Once all four of the laser cannons are done away with, the Spirit Train will be sent through a second portal.

The third and final phase leaves the Demon Train with only its front part. During this phase, the Demon Train fires rotating lasers from the side of the train. It shoots out multiple lasers at once, so it can be quite intimidating. Link can ride alongside the Demon Train and blast away at the crystals that are shooting the lasers. Since the crystals are rotating, they can all be hit from either side of the train. Once all of the crystals have been hit, the Train will be stunned for a moment and will slow down drastically. Link can then speed up the Spirit Train to get in front of the Demon Train. At this point, the Link can unload cannon shots into the face of the Demon Train and deal some damage. Repeat this same process until the Demon Train has been defeated.

The Demon Train is the train used by Chancellor Cole and Malladus to help in their quest to revive Malladus in Spirit Tracks. It comes from the Dark Realm that Chancellor Cole locates by using the Compass of Light that Byrne created. The Demon Train is first seen when Cole and Byrne appear to take Princess Zelda's body to resurrect Malladus. Once Malladus is resurrected, he and Cole use the Demon Train to flee to the Dark Realm. The Demon Train is one of the last boss fights in the game. It also serves as the battleground for the fight between Cole and Malladus that comes right after the actual fight with the Demon Train.

The Demon Train is arguably one of the largest bosses Link faces in the game. Although it is not very tall, it has a massive horizontal length. It is much larger than the Spirit Train and has two cars attached to the end of the engine. At the front of the train is a dark gray face with a red nose. Despite the Demon Train being a vehicle, it does seem to be semi-sentient with facial expressions, grunts, and roars, which might conclude that it is some kind of evil spirit or being in the form of a locomotive.

Boss Fight

The battle takes place on four rails and the Demon Train will move back and forth amongst the rails. At times the Demon Train will attempt to move exactly where the Spirit Train is. Link will need to slam on the breaks and hit reverse so that the Demon Train doesn't hit him. Link will be able to switch tracks when there are forks in the road. On some parts of the track there are dark fires that damage the Spirit Train if not avoided by Link.
