— In-game Description[1]

The Deku Hornet is a collectible insect found in Skyward Sword. They are very common and can be found in Faron Woods, specifically the Deep Woods.[2][3][4] Later in the game, when access to the Thunderhead is available, Deku Hornets can be found on the island of Bug Rock. They are obtainable after Link knocks down one of their nests, he can then capture them with a Bug Net although the Deku Hornets will attack when he is too close.[5] Additionally, by destroying their hive Link also receives Hornet Larvae.[6]. They are used in upgrading Potions, specifically the Heart Potion and Revitalizing Potion.

  1. "You caught # Deku Hornet! The venom of these insects can be heated to infuse a potent medicine. Just be careful not to get attacked by an angry swarm!" — In-game Description, Skyward Sword.
  2. "This area is known as the Deep Woods of Faron Woods. Deku Hornet hives are common here, so exercise caution. With a suitable bug-catching tool, your chances of avoiding harm increase by 75%." — Fi, Skyward Sword.
  3. "Oh...if you want to infuse that potion, I'm afraid you're still one ingredient short. The brew still needs a smidge of Deku Hornet. According to my secret infuser's handbook, these can be found within heavily wooded areas." — Bertie, Skyward Sword.
  4. "Hey, kid! It looks like you're a bit short on materials. You don't have enough Hornet Larvae. My grandpa's notes say you can find the stuff in some of the Deku Hornet hives found in heavily wooded areas." — Gondo, Skyward Sword.
  5. "Deku Hornets will not hesitate to attack if you venture near their hive. They are small and agile, so I calculate the probability of hitting them with your sword at approximately 0%. I recommend that you run away or attempt to capture them. Like other bugs, they can be taken to the potion infuser and used as raw ingredients." — Fi, Skyward Sword.
  6. "You got Hornet Larvae! They're a precious source of protein that comes from a Deku Hornet's hive. This material might be good for making something." — In-game Description, Skyward Sword.
