The Diabolical Cubus Sisters, or more simply known as the Cubus Sisters, are, collectively, the boss of the Ghost Ship, the fourth Dungeon in Phantom Hourglass. They belong to the Great House of Cubus and claim to have heard of Link prior to his arrival. They deceive Link into believing they were locked away on the Ghost Ship, causing him to scour the base of the ship in search of all four sisters.[1] Upon reuniting all four, they reveal their hideous demonic forms and begin to attack Link. The Cubus Sisters, after being "saved" by Link, insist that he must play Dead Man's Volley with them, to which Link has no choice but to accept, being transported aboard the ship.

Strategy

The Cubus Sisters' fight is a variation on the reiterated Boss fight mechanic, Dead Man's Volley; referred to officially by this name for the first time in a Zelda game. The fight starts with all but one of the Sisters firing laser beams down in Link's direction, the other will periodically lob large balls of energy at Link, simply follow the lone sister until she throws one of these projectiles and perform a side slash or spin attack to launch it back in her direction, if Link doesn't manage to hit the projectile in time, the energy ball will split off into 4 smaller balls that cannot be deflected. After 2 hits of an energy ball, the sister will be defeated. When each sister is defeated, the boss' tactics will become more and more aggressive, the energy balls will pick up speed and you'll have to volley it more and more times between you and the sisters before you land a hit, the second and third will also require 2 hits each to defeat. When only the final Sister remains, she will begin firing three energy balls at a time, however, only one of them will be reflected back to her when hit, the other two will split off into the 4 smaller balls when contact is made with Link's sword. Using the Spin attack here is ideal for ensuring hitting the correct orb, creating a volley with the sister which will eventually end with a hit. The final Cubus Sister will be defeated after 3 hits, allowing Link to collect his rewards, and continue onward with his journey.

Trivia

The name "Cubus" may derive from the breed of demon known as Incubus and Succubus. The Succubus is a female demon that seduces men to steal their life force, suiting the sisters' deceptive nature. The Succubus, however, lack the horns of the Incubus that appear on the Cubus Sisters.
