The Color Dungeon sometimes went unappreciated by Zelda Fans that didn't understand why it was there.

The new optional dungeon was put in the graveyard to make it sort of a sneaky add in, but the game already had tons of easter eggs that were easy to see through. But at the end of the Dungeon, the Great Fairy actually allows you to change your suit color! This changed the game up, giving you more fire power. You could choose between two suit colors, Red, which doubled you attack power permanently, or Blue, which doubled your Defense. You could change your suit at any time in the game as well. You could not however, go back to your green suit without using cheats.

The Color Dungeon is an extra dungeon that appears in both the DX and 2019 remakes of Link's Awakening. It was originally created to show off the new color ability of the Game Boy Color.

Entrance

The Color Dungeon is located in the Cemetery. After obtaining the Pegasus Boots, Link can knock a book off of the higher shelf in Mabe Village Library that tell him which directions to push the five gravestones in the southeast of the Cemetery. The directions are randomized, and thus every playthrough has a different combination of directions. If Link pushes them in the correct order, the dungeon's entrance appears under the last stone.

Just inside, Link meets the Skeletal Guards, Gar and Dion, who ask him a question about the color of their clothes.[1] If he answers correctly, they allow him to enter and inform him that the Fairy Queen is waiting.[2]

Enemies

Bosses and Mini-Bosses

Color Elements

This dungeon was created to show the added color to the game that was not available in the previous version of Link's Awakening. The dungeon gave various color puzzles including floors, enemies and a strike puzzle that heavily relied on the color.

Reward

At the end of the dungeon, the Fairy Queen grants Link the "power of color". She asks if he wants red or blue.[3] If he chooses red, he will receive the Red Tunic, which will increase his attack power. If he chooses blue, he will receive the Blue Tunic, which gives him double defense power. Link can change his suit at any time by going back through the dungeon. However, he cannot go back to the green suit without using cheats.
