"You got a Bug Medal! Areas with insects will now be marked with [bug icon] on your map! You can open your map to see where the bugs like to hang out."

— In-Game Description

The Bug Medal is an optional item found in Skyward Sword. It is one of the seven different medals found within the game, all with their own effects on Link.

Link can obtain the Bug Medal by purchasing it from Beedle's Air Shop after he has bought the Bug Net. When Link approaches it, Beedle explains that when Link carries the medal, he is able to see where bugs are found on the map and describes it as a necessity if he likes catching bugs. Being one of the more expensive items, Beedle sells the Bug Medal for 1,000 Rupees.[2] If Link has returned Beedle's Horned Colossus Beetle to him, he offers the next item Link purchases at half the price.[3] Due to this, Beedle can sell the Bug Medal at a less expensive price of 500 Rupees instead if Link has not used the discount yet.[4]

When Link is carrying the Bug Medal, areas with bugs are marked with a green icon on his map, allowing him to see where bugs like to be at.[5][6] However, bugs are not always present at the icon and the Bug Medal does not give details on which types of bugs appear in the area.[7]
