Batreaux's House is a small, worn out house that is located beneath the bustling city of Skyloft in Skyward Sword. This house is home to the demon Batreaux. His home can be reached during the side quest to find the missing Kukiel. An old man at the Lumpy Pumpkin will inform Link that if he pushes back a certain grave, it will open a pathway to Batreaux's House.[1] If he ventures downward, he'll come across his old and out of shape home. When he enters inside, he can find the demon and Kukiel playing a game that apparently involves screaming. As Link proceeds to attack Batreaux, he informs the hero that he means no harm.[2][3]

Once Kukiel is returned to her mother, Link can visit Batreaux in his home at any given time. Once the hero has collected a certain number of Gratitude Crystals, a treasure chest will appear in Batreaux's House. Batreaux warns Link that the contents inside the chest are very dangerous.[4] If Link ignores what he says and opens it anyways, he will obtain the Cursed Medal.[5][6]

  1. "Well, you see... It was the dead of night. I hit the gravestone closest to the tree. The impact made the gravestone light right up! After that, I went to inspect the lit-up gravestone. When I pushed against the gravestone, the door to the storage shed next to it opened all on its own... And that's when I saw it! I saw the monster! It lives in the storage shed! I'm serious! You shouldn't go in there! If you do, don't say I didn't warn ya!" — Rusta, Skyward Sword.
  2. "Stop! Please! I beg of you... don't hurt me! Oh goodness, I know how bad this must look to you right now, but I assure you I mean no harm! We were just playing the scream-as-loud-as-you-can game!" — Batreaux, Skyward Sword.
  3. "Isn't that a fun game...? Oh, dear... Perhaps an explanation is in order! My name is Batreaux, and I am a monster who resides here in this humble dwelling below Skyloft. But please allow me to correct one popular misconception. While I'm certainly a monster, I wouldn't dream of terrorizing the people of this town! You see, this adorable little girl is the only one who didn't let loose a blood- curdling scream at the sight of me! Since she began to visit me here, I've felt positively jubilant! You see, my heart's only wish is to become friends with the lovely people of Skyloft. But as you can surely imagine, it has proven quite difficult to break the ice when they are struck with paralyzing fear at the mere sight of me!" — Batreaux, Skyward Sword.
  4. "No, I beg you! Stop! That chest is not to be opened, under any circumstance! There's something unspeakable inside!
What? :I want to open it." — Batreaux, Skyward Sword.
  5. "That chest contains the infamous evil of the dreaded Cursed Medal. If you carry that medal with you, you'll find more Rupees than ever before! You'll even have better chances of discovering treasure! You'll... You'll... Oh, don't make me say it!
Sounds handy! :Say...what?" — Batreaux, Skyward Sword.
  6. "Ah! Oh dear...now you've done it! You opened it, didn't you?! Human desire is an insatiable, fearsome thing...even to a demon! But then again, I suppose it's also what makes your kind so intriguing... If your pouch won't open, fear not. That will only happen while you're carrying that medal. If you leave it at an Item Check, you'll be able to open your pouch once again." — Batreaux, Skyward Sword.
