Link's underpants in Breath of the Wild

Base Defense

Underpants are a garment of clothing seen in The Legend of Zelda series.

The Wind Waker

"Heya, shrimplet! Are you gonna be our new pirate swabbie? ...'Cause any new swabbie reports to me! Helloooooooo, new pirate swabbie! Goooooood-bye, dirty pirate underwear! Yes! This means I don't have to wash the other pirates' dirty underpants anymore!"

Skyward Sword

"Target lock: Cursed Bokoblin

This horrifying Bokoblin reanimates after death. Analysis indicates it fears pure, shiny items and will startle at the sight of a sacred shield. It is able to reanimate purely through its hatred of this world...and its attachment to outlandish underpants."

Breath of the Wild

When Link awakes in the Shrine of Resurrection in Breath of the Wild, he is wearing only underpants. While he can wear armor which apparently removes them, such as the Barbarian Leg Wraps, he can never remove them without putting anything else on in their place. Many people Link encounters, especially Rito, are appalled if Link goes around in nothing but underpants.

Link must complete the Stranded on Eventide Shrine Quest wearing only his underpants. In addition, he must begin each set of the Trials of the Sword wearing only underpants, although he has the opportunity to gain additional items of clothing during the trials.

Tears of the Kingdom

As in Breath of the Wild, Link's underpants remain irremovable except by replacing them with something else. His underpants are now brownish-grey rather than blue. When he comes to in the Room of Awakening with his new right arm, he is once again wearing only underpants.

The Zonai Survey Team at Foothill Stable have been given the order, apparently by Princess Zelda, that:

"We will only find our future if we chart a new course, leaving the safety of indoor study for exploration in the wild.
"So, prepare your mind and body, and then explore in underpants!"

Link finds Penn there investigating the odd orders, beginning the For Our Princess! Side Adventure. After talking to Jasz, who is sitting beside the stable in his underpants, and Bougan, who is training in his underpants; he goes to the Foothill Monster Den, where Drant and Sango are standing at the entrance, terrified, in their underpants. Somehow, they talk Link into showing them how it's done, and he enters the den with nothing but his Energy Cell, Right Arm abilities and underpants. He proceeds to defeat the monsters using only what he finds inside, while wearing nothing but underpants.

After they return to Foothill Stable, Lecia joins the Zonai Survey team there, and clarifies that they misheard Princess Zelda, who said "explore all other paths", not "explore in underpants". Embarrassed, the men resolve to use the time spent working just as hard as when they only wore underpants.

"Proving Grounds" Shrines of Light strip Link of all externally-acquired equipment and clothing save his Energy Cell, Right Arm abilities and, of course, underpants.
