Skulltulas are some of the first enemies that appear in the game, found [[Inside the Deku Tree]]. Although very limited in movement, they pose quite the obstacle and are awkward to defeat. If you attack their front side, it will make them rock back and forth and potentially hit you. Only their backside is vulnerable, so wait until they turn around and strike them with your weapon of choice. Later on, you can use the Hookshot or Longshot to kill them in one hit from either side.

Skullwalltula is the first variant. It is a small, white spider that crawls on vines. They can be taken out with the [[Sword]], but most of the time, they will be beyond Link's Sword's reach. The best way for [[Link]] to defeat them is to use a ranged weapon, such as the [[Fairy Slingshot|Slingshot]] or [[Fairy Bow|Bow]]. If Link tries to climb on the vines without defeating the Skulltula first, it may see him and charge, causing Link to fall back to the ground.

The Big Skulltula is a large spider that hangs down from the ceiling. It spins from its armored front to its exposed underside and backs every few seconds. There are multiple methods of defeating a Skulltula. As a child, Link must wait for it to reveal its back side and either rush in with a sword attack or shoot it with the Slingshot. As an adult, Link has more powerful weapons, so he can shoot them with the Bow or [[Hookshot]] while facing their armored side.

The third variant is the Gold Skulltula. There is an entire side quest dedicated to them where Link searches for the Gold Skulltulas to free the [[Cursed Rich Family]] that lives in the [[House of Skulltula]] in [[Kakariko Village]]. When Link defeats a Gold Skulltula, he gets a [[Gold Skulltula Token]]. When Link gets a certain amount of tokens, (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 100 tokens) the curse will be broken on one more family member, and Link will be rewarded with a prize ([[Adult's Wallet]], [[Stone of Agony|Stone/Shard of Agony]], [[Giant's Wallet]], [[Bombchu]]s, [[Piece of Heart]], Unlimited [[Rupee]]s, respectively).

In ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask|Majora's Mask]]'', Skulltulas have the ability to perform a spin attack which can damage Link. They do not take damage when struck from the front side by the Hookshot like ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time|Ocarina of Time]]'', but the [[Hero's Bow|Bow]] is still effective in eliminating them.

Gold Skulltulas return in ''Majora's Mask'', but they are no longer spread out across the entire land. There are two Skulltula Houses, located in the [[Southern Swamp]] and in [[Great Bay Coast]], that contain 30 Gold Skulltulas each. Collecting all 30 in a house frees someone from a curse, and this person gives Link a reward. The [[Mask of Truth]] is found in the [[Swamp Spider House]] in the Southern Swamp, and the [[Giant's Wallet]] (on the First Day) and a Piece of Heart (on the Second and Final Day) are found in the [[Oceanside Spider House]] in the Great Bay Coast.

Skulltulas have similar properties to their ancestors of ''Ocarina of Time'' and ''Majora's Mask'' in ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess|Twilight Princess]]'', with a shielded front side and vulnerable back side. However, they walk around on their own after being targeted or touched. Afterwards, they charge at Link until close enough to strike. If struck directly, Skulltulas typically deflect the attack, giving off a blue spark on contact; although, if attacked at the right time, they give a red spark, signifying a successful hit. Strategies on this enemy include: rolling around and attacking the back side, deflecting a bite attack and striking, or thrusting while they charge up an attack. Using the [[Gale Boomerang]] can be effective, as it momentarily stuns the Skulltula. These enemies can be found in the [[Forest Temple (Twilight Princess)|Forest Temple]], as well as in various locations across [[Hyrule Field]], specifically cavernous areas.

In ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass|Phantom Hourglass]]'', Skulltulas are found around the [[Ghost Ship (Phantom Hourglass)|Ghost Ship]]. They drop down from the ceiling and block Link's path. If Link escorts a [[Cubus Sisters|Cubus Sister]] and gets close enough to the Skulltula for the Cubus Sister to see it, she starts to scream. If there is a [[Reapling]] on the same floor, it immediately goes to where the Cubus Sister screamed. To get rid of them, Link must attack them with any of his weapons.

In ''[[The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks|Spirit Tracks]]'', Skulltulas are found when operating the train in the [[Lost Woods]] region of the [[Forest Realm]]. Both versions can be defeated with a shot from Link's [[Cannon]].

Small Skulltulas require only a single shot to be defeated. Additionally, a train whistle can also get rid of the monster.

Large Skulltulas require two shots to defeat. A train whistle will not get rid of the monster.

Skulltulas appear very much like their ''Twilight Princess'' predecessors. They inhabit the two dungeons in [[Faron Province]]: [[Skyview Temple]] and [[Ancient Cistern]]. They are spider-like creatures with eight legs whose main attack is to dash its body towards Link. Skulltulas appear in several different ways. Some drop down from the ceiling, others are hanging from a string, while some have full blown spider webs created to block Link's path. Link can knock down a Skulltula by breaking its string or spider web with the [[Beetle (Item)|Beetle]]. Before Link obtains the Beetle, he must whack a hanging Skulltula until they spin around, revealing their weak spots.
