Southern Face Shrine

The Southern Face Shrine is a location in Link's Awakening. It is located in the south-eastern region of Koholint Island, just north of Animal Village and south of Face Shrine in the Ancient Ruins. The entrance to this area is guarded by Armos and Zols.

The shrine consists of three rooms. In the first room there are two pots containing Arrows. In the next room, Link fights the Armos Knight in the center room. Defeating him yields the Face Key and opens the door to the final room. There, after lighting the two torches, Link can read a strange mural on the wall.

"TO THE FINDER… THE ISLE OF KOHOLINT , IS BUT AN ILLUSION… HUMAN, MONSTER, SEA, SKY… A SCENE ON THE LID OF A SLEEPER'S EYE… AWAKE THE DREAMER, AND KOHOLINT WILL VANISH MUCH LIKE A BUBBLE ON A NEEDLE… CASTAWAY, YOU SHOULD KNOW THE TRUTH!"

After reading the mural and exiting the shrine, the Owl will appear just outside the shrine to says that it is uncertain whether the island is truly a dream or not.[1]

Just as you cannot know if a chest holds treasure until you open it, so you cannot tell if this is a dream until you awaken... The only one who knows for sure is the Wind Fish...
