Selecting the Item That's Right for You is a book found within the Village Library in Link's Awakening. Like most of other books found within the Library, this book gives Link tutorial information - in this case, assigning items to buttons.
Link's Awakening (Game Boy) & Link's Awakening DX
"'You can select your favorite item for the A and B Buttons on the Sub-Screen. Using different items, you can fight without a sword! Try many different things to find what's right for you!'"
The book explains how to select items using your sub-screen and how you can equip them to the 'A' and 'B' buttons. It also notes that, since both buttons are assignable to any inventory items, "you can fight without a sword!"
Link's Awakening (Switch)
"The subscreen you can get to with ⊕ is very useful! You can select your favorite items for the Ⓧ and Ⓨ buttons there.
Try many different things to find out what's right for you!"
Since the sword is permanently assigned to Ⓑ in Link's Awakening (Switch), the reference to fighting without it is removed, replaced with which button to use to open the subscreen (no longer hyphenated).
