Zelda Content

Mail Box (pp. 6-7)

In the Mail Box from the playesr, Andrew Martin writes in an has put together a rap for The Legend of Zelda

It's the Legend of Zelda and it's really bad,
the creatures in the game are really rad.
Darknuts move very fast,
but if you are quick they will not last.
Polls VOice jump super high,
but if you watch your speed you will not die.
Wizrobes move fast I agree,
but if you get touched you lose a heart of energy.
I'd like to thank Nintendo for all the fun,
but I'm sorry to say my rap is done!

Matt Bozon writes in that he loves The Legend of Zelda and is an aspiring cartoonist. He draws a picture of some of the enemies from the Legend of Zelda and sends it in.

Counselor's Corner (pp. 56-59)

In the Counselor's Corner, a question is answered for The Adventure of Link and two questions are answered for the Legend of Zelda.

Fairy Spell

  • Where do I get the Fairy Spell?

In the Harbor Town of Mido, there is a woman who has a daughter that is ill and Link must bring her some Sacred Water. The water is located in a cave well to the west, which can only be entered after acquiring the Hammer. When Link gets the Sacred Water, he can return to Mido and give it to the woman, which will lead to Link learning the Fairy Spell.

In addition to allowing Link to fly over large gaps and reach higher places, the Fairy Spell will also allow Link to pass through locked key doors, even when he doesn't have a key.

Defeating Darknuts and Wizzrobes

  • How do I defeat the Darknuts and Wizzrobes?

To defeat the Blue Darknuts in Level Five, the easiest stategy is if Link has full hearts. He can keep his distance and launch sword beam attacks, hitting the Darknuts in their back or sides to deal damage. Nintendo Power also suggests using the doorways as safe spots. The Darknuts will move close to the doorway, but will not be able to walk into them. Link can stand in the doorway and jab at the Darknuts as they walk by.

The Wizzrobes that Link encounters in Level Six will shoot magic towards Link. The Magic Shield can be used to absorb the shock, but Link needs to be careful of enemy Like Likes that are often found alongside Wizzrobes, as they will gobble up Link's shield. Once Wizzrobes appear, they will always be facing towars Link. Link can step aside so he isn't in a direct line of sight and can quickly sneak around, to get an attack in.

Finding the Blue Ring

  • Where is the Blue Ring in the Second Quest and how do I get it?

The Blue Ring is found in the Second Quest within the Secret Shop, located at the very far northeast corner of the map. In the first quest, this secret cave house a Moblin who gave Link 100 Rupees. In the screen just south, there is the gambling Money Making Game. From this screen, Link can simply walk up, through a part of the rock wall, traveling to the next screen. Walking through hidden walls like this is common in many of the dungeons within the Second Quest.

Friends Fan Fiction (pp. 68-69)

A Fan-Fiction was published, starting a character named Jason who is an avid Nintendo fan and loves Legend of Zelda. He doesn't just play the games though, as in the story, he gets sucked into the video game himself and is working alongside Link to find Level Seven. The story talks about the bond and friendship that Link and Jason have. He's not just playing a game, but the character in the game is his friend, and they share stories from outside of just the world of Hyrule.

Throughout the story, Jason has to pause the game to eat a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich for lunch and talk with his mother. When he returns to the game, Jason and Link share a laugh about his mother's sandwiches. Jason and Link successfully defeat a Moblin outside a Lake and then sit down for a break. After deciding to play some music using the Whistle, a whirlwind appears, causing the water in the lake to vanish and revealing the entrance to Level Seven. Before the two can dive deep into the next labyrinth, Jason's mother is calling, letting him know that supper was ready.

Or alternatively, just get them a copy of various NES games, such as The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Goonies II, or Golgo-13. A screenshot of The Legend of Zelda is shown.

Classified Information (p. 78)

In the Classified Information section of the magazine, a few oddities are discussed regarding Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

Odd Apparition

In certain Towns and Palaces throughout Hyrule, some odd things occur when Link travels a bit outside of the border of the screen. These oddities can be discovered if Link has acquired the Fairy Spell and the Glove. In any Palace where there are falling ceiling blocks, which includes Palace, two, three, and five, simply wait on these screens until all of the blocks have fallen. Then climb up to the top of the block structure and while at the very top, cast the Fairy spell and move left or right. Link will seemingly fall through the top of the screen and appear on top of the Palace, within the ground itself.

While here, cast Fairy again, and fly left or right again. Link will once again fall from the ceiling and appear in what looks like Palace one. However the color palette of the Palace will be the same as which palace Link was just within. Once you finally laeve the palace, you'll appear outside whatever palace you had initially entered.

A similar trick can be found when in the Mountain Town of Darunia. While on top of the roof of one of the buildings, jump up and out of the screen. While out of view, activate the Fairy Spell and move left or right. Link will back down into a different town
