The Mystery Tree Subrosian is a character in Oracle of Ages, found exclusively in a Linked Game.
Smith Secret

After Link has completed the Crown Dungeon, he'll gain access to the east portion of Rolling Ridge. In the Past at the east end of the mountain, Link can jump down to find a Mystery Tree. In a Linked Game a Subrosian can be found standing next to the tree. The Subrosian here tells Link that the best defense is a good offense and asks Link if he should teach you the one thing needed to survive.[1] The Subrosian will then give Link a secret and tells him to tell the secret to the Subrosian Smithy Manager back in Subrosia.[2]
Back in Oracle of Seasons, head to the Subrosian Smithy and talk to the manager who is at the desk. In order to get this upgrade though, Link must have a shield, whether it is a Wooden Shield or Iron Shield. He will know that Link has a Secret to tell him.[3][4][5][6] Tell him the secret then the Master will say that it is close enough and will take on the job.[7] The manager will then upgrade Link's shield to the Iron Shield.[8] If Link already has the Iron Shield, he will be upgraded to the Mirror Shield.
The manager will then give Link the secret to take back to Labrynna to get the shield upgrade there.[9]
