The Golden Goddesses, or Greater Goddesses, are Din, Nayru, and Farore.
When all was an unending void, the Golden Goddesses descended from the heavens, and created Hyrule and the rest of the Light World to imprison Null. Din created the earth, Nayru created the laws of the world, and Farore created those who would uphold such laws. By having these three goddesses and power split, Hyrule and the earth can have balance. As they returned to the heavens, they left behind the Triforce. When Null began to create rifts and threatened to break free and destroy the world, they sent the Tris to mend the rifts and protect it.
They are each attributed with a certain trait. Din is the Goddess of Power, Nayru is the Goddess of Wisdom, and Farore is the Goddess of Courage. Each of their essences inheres in the three crests of the Triforce. The Golden Goddesses gave Hylia the task to protect the newborn world and the Triforce. After Ganondorf caused the Triforce to be split into three pieces, The Golden Goddesses desired the other two pieces of the Triforce to appear upon the hands of two individuals, Link and Princess Zelda. The Golden Goddesses did not rule the world but left its fate up to the land.
Trivia
- There is a reference to the three Golden Goddesses in Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, and Breath of the Wild. The three provinces all sound like a goddess: Faron (Farore), Eldin (Din), and Lanayru (Nayru).
