Walkthrough

EX The Champions' Ballad is a Main Quest from Breath of the Wild, which requires the Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass DLC to access. It will trigger after Free the Divine Beasts is completed if the DLC has been purchased before completion, or immediately upon purchase if the quest is already done.

Overview

One-Hit Obliterator trial

Zelda's voice speaks to Link and tells him to go to the Shrine of Resurrection and return the Sheikah Slate to the terminal where he found it. After doing so, the One-Hit Obliterator appears. This weapon will kill any enemy in one hit, but will also cause Link himself to die with any injury, however minor. If Link triggers the quest but doesn't grab the Obliterator (a conditio sine qua non), the map will show the locations of the quest, but won't find anything once those locations are reached.

Conditions

  • Link needs to have one free slot in his weapons inventory to grab the Obliterator.
  • While in the Obliterator trial, Link is still vulnerable to environmental damage from fire and cold, so adequate armor should be worn where necessary, even though it provides basically no defense from melee attacks, because he only has a 1/4 heart.
  • Link can consume any meals or elixirs during the trial, but the health meter will always immediately return to 1/4 heart, making health regaining pointless. However, armor bonuses, and meal and elixir effects will still carry over for their duration (such as Attack Up or Cold Resistance).
  • The Obliterator can deliver two hits before it needs a recharge, and no other melee weapon can be equipped. Other melee weapons can be dropped and picked up, but can't be used.
  • Bows and arrows can always be used.
  • The environment in the plateau also assumes an appearance of permanent night regardless of the hour, reducing visibility. This causes Keese to appear irrespective of the hour of day.
  • Leaving the Great Plateau will temporarily end the trial, and return the One-Hit Obliterator to the Shrine of Resurrection. Link can use Travel Gates within the Great Plateau without pausing it, but not to outside.
  • Link cannot use the Champions' Blessings while in the Obliterator trial (as in Daruk's Protection).
  • There will be enemies not featured in the Great Plateau otherwise, like Moblins and Lizalfos of many kinds, as well as additional Decayed Guardians. It's necessary to kill all monsters to access the given shrines, but the aforementioned Guardians are not included in the count, as some of them will never activate unless approached. Even though they may appear alongside the aforementioned enemies, Chuchus are not included in the count either.
  • Enemy encampments will feature defensive spikes that can be challenging to spot under shadow, as well as plenty of explosive barrels that are not present in the Great Plateau under normal circumstances. In contrast, previously occupied encampments of the Great Plateau will be otherwise empty.
  • In Master Mode, the Lynel at the Plateau is not present during the trial, and while all other Guardian Scouts are shown at a higher level, Guardian Scout Is remain the same inside the shrines.

In these conditions, he must unlock and complete four new shrines, each rewarding Link with a Spirit Orb, on the Great Plateau:

Once completed, the One-Hit Obliterator will apparently break apart, and orbs will go to four places; the temporary state of continual night is lifted as well. As a result, four new quests will appear, with four spots highlighted on the Sheikah Slate map. All four of these quests must be completed to progress in the EX The Champions' Ballad quest.

EX Champion Revali's Song

A stone monument with three obelisks, each showing a map location, appears directly south of Rito Village - between Cuho Mountain and Strock Lake - while Kass appears nearby to give further hints. Each of these locations involves unlocking a new shrine, which give one of Medoh's Emblems.

Once the shrines are completed, Link must go to Divine Beast Vah Medoh and exchange the Emblems for the chance to fight Windblight Ganon once more, this time in the Illusory Realm with limited equipment. Victory there will unlock the Champion Revali's Song Recovered Memory, upgrade Revali's Gale to Revali's Gale +, and finish the EX Champion Revali's Song quest.

  • Completion of all the Divine Beast Quests entailing:
    • Accessing and completing the Divine Beasts dungeons;
    • Defeating the Blights;
    • Activating the Divine Beasts;
