Wii U Software and Pro Controller Pricing
Posted on September 16 2012 by Jackson Murphy
Hot off of the heels of news of the price of the console, details have emerged on the costs of both first-party Wii U software, as well as the highly disputed Wii U Pro Controller.
During the Wii U press event earlier this week, Reggie Fils-Aime stated that “the vast majority of Wii U software will be $59.99. From a first-party perspective. Third parties set their own pricing.” This also goes for digital downloads of retail games. A few exceptions of the sixty-dollar price tag include Sing Party and Wii Fit U, which both include add-ons, hindering a higher price point. Some third party games are showing off smaller price points though, such as Tekken Tag Tournament 2 with a fifty-dollar price tag.
Although most games are now priced at sixty dollars, I was hoping Nintendo would stick to the fifty tag they used for the Wii. I’m not even sure if some of their games, such as Nintendo Land, really hinder a full purchase, and I can imagine many people waiting for a price cut. But with the industry hiking prices up, it makes sense for Nintendo to follow suit. I can only hope that games don’t cost seventy dollars in a few years.
The Wii U Pro Controller has been debated constantly in the gaming community since its announcement back at E3. Some claim the device to be an Xbox controller knock-off, while others think it will attract the “hardcore” audience. Either way, the Pro Controller is coming to retail at a price of $49.99 here in the Americas. It will launch along side the console, and is, unfortunately, not included in either bundle.
What’s your opinion? Is the price too high? Too low? Sound off in the comments below.
