Wii Games Made Available for Digital Download on Wii U

Wii U owners who wished to play original Wii titles used to have to run their systems through a specialized Wii mode. But no more! Nintendo has announced that they will release specific Wii titles for digital download purchase on the Wii U eShop. This means that Wii U owners can bypass the cumbersome Wii mode and play older Wii games directly from their Wii U dashboard.
Some Wii games that were compatible with the classic controller can also be played using the Wii U GamePad. Nintendo announced that the first three Wii games to be made available in North America for download will be Super Mario Galaxy 2, Punch-Out!!, and the Metroid Prime Trilogy. These games will be released throughout the month, retailing for $19.99, but will be available for half price for one week after their release. Different regions will see a slightly different list of games to be released first; for example, Europe and Japan will have Donkey Kong Country Returns.
Only a few other Wii games to be made available in future have been announced, but it’s hard to imagine one or both of the Wii Zelda titles won’t be released for download. Skyward Sword, anyone?
