One of the first features Wii owners hoped for when its successor, Wii U, became known to the public was the thought about Wii games upscaling to HD because of Wii U’s support toward the higher resolution capability. Unfortunately, the ability to convert Wii games to full HD is unsupported yet we do know that certain titles such as an awesome Zelda game in Twilight Princess showcases an improved picture display when played via Wii U. It’s not a vast improvement but a noticeable one all the same!

Wii U has been confirmed to upscale Wii games, not re-render them. This means the picture of the game you’re playing will only be adjusted according to what the TV thinks is the best option available and happens to be only supported by HD TVs. On a similar note, Wii games may only be upscaled from 480p to 576i by the use of an HDMI cable so unless you possess an HD TV no difference in the quality of the picture will occur.

Putting my Wii copy of Twilight Princess into my brand new Wii U revealed an improvement regarding the display of the picture quality on my HD TV. A lesser showing of pixels seemed to occur and the picture quality happened to be a bit smoother which encourages me to play Wii games on my Wii U.

Have you noticed a difference playing Wii games via your Wii U console? Is there a noticeable difference in the picture quality of Wii games played on Wii U? Do you like playing Wii games on Wii U?
