Sheik-and-Princess-Zelda-in-Super-Smash-Bros-4-princess-zelda-36979901-1920-1080Super Smash Bros. on 3DS was just released, and people are already giving their personal reviews all across the board. One thing that many players are looking down on is the fact that Zelda and Shiek, as well as Samus and Zeros Suit Samus, are separate fighters, unlike their previous joined iterations. Masahiro Sakurai recently gave a quote on why this is the case.

Check out the quote after the jump!

Sakurai said this to Famitsu Magazine in an interview, when asked why the characters were split up:

“It’s basically due to the 3DS. It was impossible to have both characters exist together [as one] on 3DS. However, reaching that limit can sometimes lead in good directions. Transforming characters had the drawback of ambiguous tactics and such, and I believe that they have become more fresh now.” — Masahiro Sakurai

It seems that the 3DS is showing its weaknesses for once. Smash Bros. is a large game, to say the least, and while it was quite impressive how much the handheld could handle in the past, the recent games for it are getting more and more powerful. This is just one reason for the upcoming release of the New 3DS; to add to the operating system and make sure that limitations on design are minimal.

It is almost guaranteed that the split characters will remain just that in the Wii U version as well. Sakurai claims that the split is a good thing, but that is pretty much up for the players to decide.

What do you guys think? Was it an okay move to split Shiek and Zelda for this Smash title? Leave a comment!
