What if Link Never Left Kokiri Forest?

Ocarina of Time (which just celebrated its 17th birthday) offered gamers a quintessential hero’s journey, as a young boy left the humble home he’s always known to face the world and overcome evil. But have you ever wondered what would have happened in the land of Hyrule if Link never answered that call and left Kokiri Forest? Well, our friends at SwankyBox recently answered that question and explored the possible implications of Link failing to meet his destiny.

SwankyBox presents the situation in which Link never received or failed to answer the Great Deku Tree’s call at the beginning of Ocarina of Time. Sadly, our hero would have most likely lived in ignorance in his forest home and eventually grown larger than his Kokiri brothers and sisters. The video also explores the actions Ganondorf would need to take if Link was not present to retrieve the Spiritual Stones, attain the Master Sword, or open the Sacred Realm.

I won’t reiterate all of SwankyBox’s reasoning, as not to take away from the video itself, but I will say that the end has something to do with Ganondorf and an evil bakery. We all agree that Link choosing to pursue his adventure in Ocarina of Time made for an unforgettable game, but SwankyBox still shows the fun in exploring the hypotheticals.
