We’re Looking for Walkthrough Writers & Editors for ALBW, Majora’s Mask, and More!

How is everyone doing today? We go through many hiring sprees at both Zelda Informer and Gamnesia every year, but we seem to always focus on news and article writers. Sure, we always need more of those, but one aspect we seem to only hire for maybe once a year are walkthrough writers. This is understandable of course – walkthroughs require a lot of work both for the writer and for the folks who convert them to the website for proper use. When done perfectly well, you end up with something as glorious as our Ocarina of Time 3D Walkthrough (which needs some image updating still). When rushed, you get our Skyward Sword Walkthrough – which is functional in both forms, but still lacks proper formatting.
As an example, here is our first chapter of our The Wind Waker HD Walkthrough. Here is our second chapter. Notice how it is lacking screenshots? It’s a lot of work all around. As such, we are actually hiring for a slew of walkthrough positions.
Why Now?
Many question we get every time is “why do walkthroughs when so many already exist?”. It is a very fair point and one we have battled with over the years. Reality is this: We have a fundamental belief that Walkthroughs can be done better. Done a lot better. We feel most out there are hard to understand and interpret, or are overrun with so much imagery that you might be wondering why you play the game. After all, you’re already reading for help, do you need the game played out entirely in front of you before you do it yourself?
Of course, some do want to be shown, which is why Video Walkthroughs have become an ideal. The problem we find is that often times, the culmination of these walkthroughs are scattered. Hard to find the consistent quality across the board. We also believe in options, allowing folks to play the games how they want without shame in using guides. Hence we strive to provide a full video walkthrough, a full textual walkthrough, and what we call spoiler free walkthroughs. As an example, here is chapter one of our full text walkthrough of The Wind Waker HD. Here is that same chapter through our spoiler free edition. Now our video guide.
We hope you can agree that when we execute it properly, we provide one of the most comprehensive and flexible places on the internet to get as much, or as little, help as you prefer for various aspects of Zelda games. We also believe that we ourselves can do better, and we hope to improve the process through this new hiring initiative.
Walkthrough Writers
This is our chief position we are looking to fill, because we have a lot of walkthroughs to get out the gate. We really want someone to specifically write a full textual guide for A Link Between Worlds and Majora’s Mask, but we’ll take on writers for any game in the series. These guides should be as close to complete as possible, but you are welcome to have separate guides for things such as collectibles. The idea here is to be transparent with the folks who need these guides. Experience in walkthrough writing is a bonus and there is a high requirement of English proficiency. We really don’t want to have to sift through the entire walkthrough to correct spelling errors and grammar mistakes (though, we still will do so anyways, but you can make our job a lot easier).
Video Walkthroughs
Obviously, we are lacking when it comes to video walkthrough guides. We’re looking for folks who can create comprehensive video walkthroughs that follow our text guides, to create proper conhesian. These are not let’s play videos. We aren’t looking for commentary. The video walklthroughs should be of games we currently have guides for (besides The Wind Waker HD, which is already done), and should have points users can jump to for various things – such as items or heart pieces. We want to make these walkthroughs as useful as possible without fluff. The video quality should be 1080p.
Walkthrough Editors
This is an all new position, being created out of necessity. Previously, almost all walkthrough editing has been performed by myself. It is very taxing and time consuming position, but one which can be extremely fulfilling when you see the final product you helped create. I would still be there with you every step of the way. Explaining and showing how we do things, and even helping you complete the work. Still, we need help, Knowledge of HTML is required and good work ethic to work within given timeframes is a huge bonus. Your first step would be to properly format our existing walkthroughs for consistency. Things like adding in screenshots and getting them lightboxed, along with including our special drop down boxes.
How to Apply
Simply ship an email to nathan@zeldadungeon.net with your name, position interested in, experience level, and why you want to do it. Keep in mind that all positions are voluntary.
