GameOver Jesse has released a new installment to his “History of Video Games” series. In this video, he details what the initial stages of development were like for the team behind A Link to the Past. As one might imagine, quite a few changes were made to the game before its release.

Shockingly, it seems as though Miyamoto had planned to make the next Zelda installment more RPG-like, as noted during a conversation with the director of Dragon Quest. Miyamoto envisioned a massive party selection for his new game, and noted that Link would be a half-elf, half-warrior protagonist.

Obviously something happened in development, or gamers wouldn’t have the version of A Link to the Past that they do now. Watch the video above, and let us know your thoughts on it in the comments!
