Video Shows Every NPC Reaction to Masks in Ocarina of Time

With all the Majora’s Mask 3D hype floating around, it’s easy to forget the Majora’s Mask wasn’t the first Zelda to feature masks. Ocarina of Time had its own mask selling mini-game, in which Link must find suitable buyers for a number of different masks. Showing how masterfully detailed the development team was, every major non-player character has a unique reaction to each mask that Link wears. Master0fHyrule on YouTube recently released a video compilation showing off every one of these unique reactions, and it’s as impressive and interesting as you’d expect.

The video examines every NPC reaction to every mask in the game. Some characters repeat the same reaction for a few different masks, but they always express some degree of variety. Other than those Hyrule Castle Town and Kakariko Village, all unique characters share completely different responses to Link’s nonsense. Generic Gorons, Zoras, and Gerudo share the same reactions respectively.

Some responses reveal a bit of character back story. For example, King Zora says this when Link shows him the Goron Mask:

“Talk about a nostalgia trip! That reminds me of my childhood friend, Biggoron!”

Other responses are outright rude, such as with the man in Impa‘s House:

“You idiot! I don’t know why I’m calling you that, but… you are one!”

And some responses are ridiculously silly, such as when Talon is shown the Goron Mask:

“Hey, that reminds me of my wife…”

If you pay attention through the whole video, you’ll even find some consistantly strange facts about the Spooky Mask.
