Universal Studios announced late last year that a third theme park would be added to its Orlando-based resort, joining established parks Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Since that announcement, there has been a lot of speculation about what type of attractions would be present in the park — dubbed Epic Universe — and what media properties would be represented. Well, during an earnings call yesterday, Universal’s parent company Comcast confirmed that Super Nintendo World would be joining the new park as one of its themed worlds!

The announcement was not a huge surprise to Nintendo fans who had been speculating that the highly-anticipated Nintendo-themed world would be a premiere attraction at Epic Universe. Concept art for Epic Universe was released upon announcement of the theme park, and concept models of Super Nintendo World at Universal Orlando leaked around the same time. But, as of right now, we know very little of Super Nintendo World at Universal Orlando other than it will be Super Mario focused. The announcement trailer for Universal Japan’s version of the Super Nintendo World left us asking for more information as well.

Executives at Universal have compared this new land to the very popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and one can only imagine how grand in scale Super Nintendo World will be. Nothing more has been officially announced, but many fans are speculating that a Mario Kart-themed ride will me making an appearance at the park as will many other throwbacks to our favorite Nintendo games.

Beyond Orlando, Super Nintendo World is expected to open in Universal Studios Japan before July 24th, 2020, and construction has already begun on Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Are you looking forward to Super Nintendo World? What rides and attractions do you hope to see? Sound off in the comments below.
