Blistered Thumbs recently posted an opinionated review of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. WARNING, this video contains HARSH LANGUAGE!
My thoughts on Benzaie’s rant. I kind of understand where he is coming from with some of his points about Twilight Princess being fan service after some people complained about the “kiddie” style of Wind Waker. There is a lot about Twilight Princess that hearkens back to Ocarina of Time, but Wind Waker’s plot revolved greatly around Ocarina of Time fan service as well. I think Benzaie takes it a bit too far, but if you’ve watched any of his videos that is kind of the character he takes as a rude Frenchman who hates everything. I personally liked Twilight Princess and try to look at each Zelda game individually when I form my opinions. I wouldn’t say that Twilight Princess was my favorite, but every Zelda game has elements that are appealing and rewarding, so there isn’t a “bad” Zelda game in my opinion (not counting the CDI games of course). One of his first points was the gimmicky use of the Wii-mote and nun-chuck and he fears Skyward Sword might be a let down for this same reason. I have high hopes for Skyward Sword, but to be honest, that thought has crossed my mind as well.
What do you think? Do you agree with Benzaie? Do you think Twilight Princess was just a fan service rehash of Ocarina of Time, or was it a good installment that can stand proudly alongside any other Zelda game? Let me know in the comments below.
