Yesterday, Nintendo announced a brand new Super Smash Bros. ballot via a Nintendo Direct. The purpose of this ballot is to determine what new characters would be added into the game. Nintendo has given us, the fans, the power of changing Smash Bros. future!

What character should the fans want? What character does Smash Bros. need? Being a dedicated Zelda fan, I want more Zelda in my Smash, but what Zelda character should be added? Here are my top three choices for who it should be.

3. Darunia

Leader of the proud Goron tribe, hammer-wielding pro of Hyrule, and possibly the best dancer I have seen in a video game, Darunia is one of the roughest and toughest characters of the Zelda series.

Playing as Darunia in Hyrule Warriors makes you feel like a boss. Charging through enemies and smashing their faces in with his hammer is so fun, and his special attack kicks butt. When I unlocked Darunia, I instantly played as him as much as I could to level him up. Oncee he’s at level 30 or higher he is unstoppable.

I could see Darunia’s down B in Smash being just as powerful as Donkey Kong’s. Smashing his hammer into the ground creating shock waves would be so satisfying, not to mention smacking other characters upside the head.

2. Skull Kid

Yeaaaah, Skull Kid! He’s all mysterious and stuff. He recently starred in a remake. He wears Majora’s Mask, which, needless to say, is the epitome of swag.

If Skull Kid were playable in Smash, I might forgive Nintendo for not adding him as a playable character in Hyrule Warriors. (Instead we got a Skull Kid costume for Lana?) Seriously, who here would not want to play as Skull Kid in Smash?

Using the powers of Majora’s Mask to break the skulls of other fighters would be any Zelda fan’s dream. Even gamers that haven’t played Majora’s Mask know that Skull Kid is a pretty well-loved character in the Zelda series.

It would be smart for Nintendo to add him as a playable character, just for the joyous outbreak that would spread across the Internet. Can you say free PR?

1. Toon Ganondorf

When The Wind Waker was announced for the GameCube more than a decade ago, fans raged and kicked and screamed at Nintendo. “This isn’t a kids’ cartoon game! It’s the Zelda series!” they said. “RIP Zelda!” they said. Well, when the game came out, some fans actually saw that it was a decent game.

The majority of the fan base still hated it. The idea of a cartoon Zelda seemed disgusting to them. Well, The Wind Waker seemed to grow a larger fan base over time. The Wind Waker HD came out, and fans went crazy over it. They bought the crap out of it, and now The Wind Waker is a favorite among many. What I just described to you, by the way, was the Zelda cycle. You can check out what that is here.

Anyways, what I’m trying to get at is, Toon Ganondorf would totally wreck shop in Smash. Everyone loves Toon Link, so why not be able to play as Toon Ganondorf too? He would look so awesome facing off with Toon Link, and I bet he would create a lot of DLC sales.

Honorable Mention: Vaati

Vaati is my most favorite main villain in the Zelda series to-date. We haven’t seen him since The Minish Cap in 2005, which saddens me. (#VaatiForZeldaU anyone?)

I just couldn’t end this editorial without mentioning him. What is the reason why I’m not listing him as one of the top three that should be added to Smash? Unfortunately, not a lot of fans would be happy with that. He doesn’t have much of a cult following like Ghirahim does.

If it were a personal choice, I would add him in Smash, but I don’t think Nintendo would benefit much from adding him into the game. I would love to see him return in Zelda U, though.

There you go. The top three Zelda characters that should be added to Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS. Are you going to vote for one of them here, or vote for someone entirely different? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
