It feels like the buzzing around last week’s Nintendo Direct is still going strong! The highlight moment for many was perhaps the title reveal of Tears of Kingdom, its brief trailer, and the announcement of a release date! According to Streams Charts, the Direct had a peak viewership of over 2.1 million!

The data shows that 81% of the views came from YouTube, and that the highest performing streams were via official Nintendo Channels; though the Direct was streamed on nearly 200 channels overall. Interestingly, the Japanese-language broadcasted streams also outperformed English-language streams in the viewership indicators. The data also shows the viewership of other large events streamed this month – the Direct had twice as many viewers as the second most viewed broadcast, which was Sony’s State of Play which had 1.1 million viewers at its peak.

While this Nintendo Direct was definitely popular based on views, this does not set a record for the most viewed Direct to date. Reportedly, the February 2021 Direct was the most viewed Direct after it aired with 2.5 million peak views. With that in mind, it was surpassed by the E3 Direct in 2021, which had a peak viewership of 3.1 million. It seems this could be the Nintendo Direct that currently holds the crown.
