This Fan Theory Explores Why the Sages Disappeared in Breath of the Wild

The Sages have played a vital role throughout the Zelda series. From helping Link and Zelda seal away Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time, to imbuing the Master Sword with divine power in The Wind Waker, the Sages are important figures that have appeared in several of the Zelda games. Their missing presence in Breath of the Wild is rather notable as a result, especially since there are several callbacks to the Sages in the game. This fan theory by RMFH (featuring FerrisWheelPro) attempts to answer this strange disappearance of the Sages in Breath of the Wild.
The video explores pieces of lore featured in Breath of the Wild, including the Lord of the Mountain and the Seven Heroines, pointing to the notion that other sages following Ruto and Nabooru (both mentioned by name in Breath of the Wild) were awakened and have since passed on. The theory that the Seven Heroines were in fact sages though begins to hold more water in light of the Breath of the Wild sequel announcement, which appears to show a mummified version of Ganondorf sealed away, a deed which could have been completed by the Seven Heroines. This portion of the theory is pretty fascinating, and I think it offers an interesting explanation for why they disappeared.
