This Adorable Modern Zelda Fan Animation Puts The Cute In “Meet Cute”

Have you ever imagined what Link and Zelda might be like in our modern world? What subjects would Link and Zelda enjoy in high school or college? How would these two character meet each other without some grand adventure to get their story rolling? This animation by the YouTuber shar gives an adorable answer to that question.
The video opens with Link blocking a soccer ball headed like a rocket straight for Zelda. The slow motion focus on the incoming soccer ball and Zelda’s expressive animation really make the moment fun. From there, Link and Zelda have a moment (with a very quick and shy “thank you” from Zelda) until Link is called away to play soccer by the one and only Sidon. The audience is then treated to an adorable montage of Link and Zelda being unable to concentrate on their respective activities. Zelda messes up a potion, which causes Purah some anxiety, and Link getting smashed in the face with a soccer ball. The video concludes with the pair checking each other out on social media (one post clearly shows the label “Hateno University” and the two tentatively start a conversation online.
Overall, this fan animation is a big step up for shar and her videos. While most of shar’s previous animations have limited settings and one or two major settings, this video is much more expansive. Not only does the video include the iconic duo, but it also includes characters like Sidon, Daruk, Purah, and Teba. The larger than life facial expression really made the characters feel alive. There are also some great Zelda details in this video like the fact the characters seem to go to “Hateno University”, Zelda’s handle being “@_silentprincess”, and the name of the messaging app being “Tarrey Talk”. These are the kinds of clever details that keep me coming back animation after animation.
