SuniDoes anybody here like to be on the lookout for plot holes? Do you sift through facts about your chosen media to find continuity errors? If so then this article from Nintendo World Report is probably perfect for you. Author Justin Berube laid down his thoughts on how A Link Between Worlds fits into the Zelda timeline and analyzed the introductory story and other areas of the game for problems with its placement. He bothered to put a lot of thought into it. Hit the jump to find more information and the full article.

I personally have not gotten the chance to play A Link Between Worlds yet, but I have done some light reading on it so I just assumed the story fit well into the timeline. However, Mr. Berube certainly proved you have to pay closer attention to really confirm continuity.

Here’s one example of Justin’s thoughts:

“To end the war for the Triforce, the royal family decided to hide it in the Sacred Realm. They summoned the Seven Sages of legend, who used their power to seal the Triforce away.

“Thoughts: This event, which clearly happens before the events of A Link to the Past, makes no sense to me. According to Hyrule Historia, Ganondorf was just sealed in the Sacred Realm along with the Triforce before the Imprisoning War. Now you want to tell me the Sages didn’t seal the Triforce before the war, and that they thought it was a good idea to seal it into the same realm as the trapped Ganondorf? Yeah, good call wise men. The Link to the Past story even stated that the Triforce was already in the “Golden Land” prior to the events of the war.”

He questions the game’s place in the Decline Timeline. Some flaws, among others, that the author points out are the inconsistent whereabouts of Ganon, the inconsistent fate of Ganon, and missing characters. It is quite a well thought out and engrossing read. Check it out here.
