The Nintendo Switch Has Outsold the Playstation 4 in Japan After Only Two Years
Posted on May 15 2019 by Charles Xavier
Based on recent sales figures reported by Famitsu, the Nintendo Switch has sold an impressive lifetime total of 8,125,637 units in Japan, putting its sales above the Playstation 4’s lifetime total of 8,077,756 units in the country!
In Japan, Sony’s Playstation 4 launched in 2014, giving it over four years to gain its current lifetime sales in the country. With that said, this accomplishment for the Switch is remarkable, considering it has only been available for two years and still has a lot of steam left! Although the Playstation 4’s worldwide sales of over 90 million lifetime units sold is still pretty far from being beaten, the Nintendo Switch looks like it has a bright future ahead. It’s also really cool to see that the Switch is altering gaming in Japan, capitalizing on the appeal of portable gaming there, while also not only thriving, but succeeding against Japan’s interest in Mobile games.
Are you glad to see the Switch outselling the Playstation 4 in Japan? Do you think the Switch has a chance to beat the Playstation 4’s lifetime sales? We’re interested to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
