The Blood Moon is a brand new Zelda fan film that offers a unique spin of the mechanic of the same name from Breath of the Wild. The premise of the film, without giving away too much, is that every sixty years the Blood Moon rises and demands a sacrifice. The film takes us through Link and Zelda’s harrowing adventure against the threat of the coming Blood Moon. With top-notch production and a captivating story, The Blood Moon is sure to hold your attention from start to finish.

I really enjoyed this spin on Breath of the Wild‘s story. It felt so new, and I feel like it could have been a real piece of Zelda lore. The Neil Gaiman quote at the beginning was a wonderful touch as well. The film sees a very old Link thumbing through what looks to be Zelda’s diary. Upon finding a Silent Princess and seeing her gravestone, all becomes clear. This is going to be a tragic story. I can’t help but say that I teared up at the end, but I’m a sap for beautiful, happy endings.

The entire short film is nothing short of a beautiful production. The fight choreography, the music, and the actors all did a fantastic job bringing this world to life. Writer / Director Zane O’Gwin, Director of Photography Devin Graham, and the entire crew have created a magnificent fan film, and I hope that we see more Zelda films from them in the future.
