There have been a multitude of creepy moments throughout the Zelda franchise. Whether it be the Yeti’s “You no take mirror!” face from Twilight Princess, the reveal of Blind from A Link to the Past, or basically the entirety of Majora’s Mask, there have been plenty of unsettling bits that have stuck with us over the years.

I’m still on the fence about this, but I think that my first time experiencing the rise of the Blood Moon in Breath of the Wild might trump them all though. I remember having a blast adventuring in the expansive land of Hyrule when all of a sudden black flecks began to rise from the ground, music began to play in reverse, and the sky began a slow change to deep crimson. I had absolutely no idea what was going on and was genuinely a bit freaked out. It took no time to surmise that this was Breath of the Wild‘s genius means of restoring fallen enemies for Link to challenge again for additional, greater rewards.

But while this might have been a boon for Link, what about the poor Bokoblins? Won’t someone think of the poor Bokoblins!? Mashed did and set about creating an incredibly funny, expletive-laden animated parody of how the Blood Moon affects the more “unfortunate” creatures of Hyrule (seriously though, keep the kiddies away from this one and maybe don’t watch with the speakers on at work). In what can only be described as Zelda meets Groundhog Day, a group of Bokoblins are beset upon by Link’s cyclical path of destruction, forced to resurrect and endure new forms of death time and time again. I won’t spoil any of the events that occur, but the ending portion alone is worth a watch.
