Doing a bit of reading, it seems that this is a move on Nintendo’s part to help sell the game in Japan. The Musou series, developed by Techmo Koei (Hyrule Warriors will be titled Zelda Musou in Japan), has been a very popular series in Japan for years. So allowing Techmo Koei to keep their label while taking over distribution looks like a smarter move on their part. In the U.S. and Europe the Dynasty Warriors series is not as popular as the Zelda series, so there is less need for name recognition from the developer.

Every time I think of Techmo Koei I think of Ninja Gaiden, and that had me thinking about the possibility of controlling a Link that has been programmed by Team Ninja. Of course that is not likely to happen, but it is an interesting thought. I’m not at all surprised to hear that another developer is publishing the game. Capcom has done some nice work with Zelda games in the past, and Retro Studios has successfully made Donkey Kong and Metroid installments. I suppose it seems a little weird to hear that a Zelda title will need a little help selling in Japan since we are so used to the popularity over here. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
