Nintendo’s newest title, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, dominated UK sales charts in May. Tears of the Kingdom released on May 12th, 2023, as the largest Zelda game launch in UK history and quickly became the region’s 3rd best-selling Zelda game in lifetime sales, trailing only behind Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild. What’s more impressive is that Tears of the Kingdom accomplished this feat without taking digital sales into account, which Nintendo has yet to report.

In addition to game sales, Tears of the Kingdom also drove hardware sales. This past month, Nintendo Switch saw sales numbers 28% above what it sold last May. This ends the PlayStation 5’s four-month run as the best selling console in the UK. 35% of those Nintendo Switch sales were the Tears of the Kingdom Special Edition OLED Switch. Nintendo Switch Pro Controller sales jumped up to the #2 spot, while the Tears of the Kingdom special edition Pro Controller, which released in tandem with the game’s launch, ranked #20 as the highest charting new accessory.

Breath of the Wild also saw itself back on the UK sales charts leading up to the release of Tears of the Kingdom

How long do you think Tears of the Kingdom will lead sales charts? What game do you think will knock it from that top spot? Let us know in the comments.
