When I was a kid, I used to imagine that one day a gaming console would release that could allow me to play any game from any era. I envisioned something that had cartridge and disc slots which could adapt to anything put inside of it; I never imagined that in the near future games would go digital, allowing this dream to potentially be achieved much more efficiently. Something like a digital version of a GameCube game playing on an Xbox would have blew my mind 20 years ago; modernly it’s not a shock at all, but still cool nonetheless! Recently, Twitter user @GrimmSim managed to get the Wii version of Twilight Princess running on the Xbox Series X, unofficially, of course.

It’s hard to judge the graphical quality from the video in the tweet, but I doubt there would be any major improvements in that regard anyway. Initially I was wondering what emulation software he could be utilizing here; luckily in the comments he clarified it was RetroArch, a frontend emulator which is my childhood dream come true – practically any game you can think of is available, as long as whatever console or device you are using can run the software.

If you are interested in seeing how Twilight Princess looks on the next-gen console, take a look at the tweet below:

We are probably a long way off from console exclusivity being phased out, assuming it ever will, so this is the only way we’ll likely ever see a Nintendo game running on a non-Nintendo console, for the time being.

Are there any consoles in particular that you wished could play first-party Nintendo games? For example, I remember an image that went viral of a cardboard stand advertising The Wind Waker HD on PlayStation 4. Inversely, are there also any PlayStation or Microsoft exclusives that you wished you could play on a Nintendo console? Tell us in the comments below!
