Warning: This video contains spoilers for Skyward Sword HD.

In August, we covered the start of a video analysis series on Skyward Sword HD’s dungeons. The creator of those episodes, CaptBurgerson, has returned with a new series called Zelda Character Study, and his debut episode features an analysis video that studies the character of Ghirahim, the game’s primary antagonist. Ghirahim has proven to be a popular character in the Zelda fanbase. The sly and posturing demon even managed to take second place in Zelda Dungeon’s 2021 Fall Brawl competition. CaptBurgerson’s character study takes a deep look into what aspects of Ghirahim’s personality and actions make him such a loveable yet dangerous foe.

Personally, I get a kick out of Ghirahim’s manic personality shifts. One moment, he is calm and collected. The slightest event going the wrong way will throw the demon into fits of rage coupled with attempts to bring his temper back to normal. Put simply, the antics of this vain egotist are pure fun to watch. Granted, Ghirahim’s suave and cultured mannerisms are little more than a thin veneer over his raging sadism, but the man still manages to put on a show in his every appearance. Additionally, Ghirahim is one of the most active Zelda villains by virtue of the fact that we get to see most of his villainy. This is starkly contrasted against Ganondorf or Majora, who’s evil actions usually happen off-screen to build tension for their final showdowns with the hero.

Do you like Ghirahim as a character? Does the video describe him in a way that meshes with your in-game experiences? Let us know in the comments.
