The Zelda series is loved by many for its adventurousness and compelling storylines. I doubt that anyone would argue with the statement that any one of Link’s numerous journeys can be called a quest. But what few know is that the concept of a quest is so prevalent in stories from all around the world that a set structure has been made which outlines the stages of the quest. The majority of the Zelda games fit perfectly into this pattern,…

This past Friday, I was one of the lucky New Yorkers to attend The Symphony of the Goddesses: Second Quest! As an avid listener of Zelda music, and an attendee of the “First Quest,” I was elated to experience fully orchestrated performances of brand new medleys, as well as many favorites of last year’s performance. And now you can ask experience some of it too, with footage of the concert’s best moments now available on YouTube! Click the jump for…

Hello readers! Brian here with the fifth installment of “The Best and Worst of Zelda.” This awesome topic was suggested by Christian, so much thanks to him! Remember to leave your ideas for next week in the comments below. The sidequest is an extremely important element to pull off in a Zelda game. Though by nature an unnecessary portion of the game, sidequests exist only to enhance the gameplay experience and absorb the player even further into the mind of…

The Legend of Zelda is a gaming franchise that has touched the hearts of everyone who has played it. Although the Legend of Zelda series is spectacular in almost every way, some feel it has become more and more flawed as of late, especially Skyward Sword. David Hellman (the artist of Braid) and Tevis Thomson (writer of “Saving Zelda”) are huge Legend of Zelda fans and after “Saving Zelda” was published, conversations of the frustrations of Skyward Sword began. After…

YouTube channel TheNintendoDaily has released a new video of some Skyward Sword footage! In this short clip, we see a new character, one who has been mentioned before: Batreaux. In this undetermined section of the game, the mysterious monster comes face to face with Link. This close to Skyward Sword’s release date, I didn’t think we’d see many more videos, so this is a neat, little snippet. I warn you, though, there are spoilers in the video after the jump.

Ever wonder what pressing 1 on the Wii Remote does in Skyward Sword? If you’ve been paying attention to videos and screenshots, you’d know that it brings up the Gear menu. GameTrailers recently showed us this menu, pictured to the left. You can click the image to view a larger version. At the top right corner is an icon indicating how to center the Wii Motion Plus sensors (point the Wii Remote directly at the screen and press down on…

As more information about Skyward Sword flows in, it’s easy to forget about some of it. You probably remember that Miyamoto gave a presentation about Skyward Sword at the Nintendo 3DS Conference in September, but what did we get out of that? Aside from a neat CG trailer and a new gameplay video, Miyamoto added some comments about the controls, the development, and what to expect from the game. One of these revelations was supposedly that Skyward Sword will feature…

What makes a game difficult or easy? Good question. Game designers walk a delicate balancing act of making a game challenging without causing it to be frustrating. Like any job, there are techniques to accomplish this goal. Major points that contribute to difficulty are the implementation of a navigator, success of game controls and mechanics, and in Zelda games the puzzle quality. However, the most important factor for determining difficulty in any game is the use of patterns. The balance…

In an official press release, Nintendo announced today that the re-imagining of Ocarina of Time for the 3DS will release on June 19. A June 19 launch date has been set for The Legend of Zelda™: Ocarina of Time™ 3D, a re-mastered edition of one of the most acclaimed installments in The Legend of Zelda series, created exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS system. While we already knew that Master Quest would make it into the portable release, the release date…

Hey guys! Well, not long now until E3. A little under two weeks! Soon I’m sure we’ll get some much needed confirmation on our theories and desires for Zelda Wii, as well as some pleasant surprises. But until then I thought I’d make a video to go over the big pool of rumors posted here on Zelda Dungeon over the last few months. The rumors I cover in the video come from three main news posts: Zelda Wii Information Leaked…
